Queensland’s number of coronavirus cases has nearly doubled in two days, from 20 on Wednesday to 35 today.

Moreton Bay Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Chair Cr Peter Flannery said locals need to start taking additional precautions to protect themselves against the spread of the pandemic.

“Washing your hands often with soap or sanitiser, avoiding close contact with people who are sick and covering coughs and sneezes are important to stop the outbreak spreading throughout our community,” he said.

“Council Customer Service Centres, libraries, galleries and museums across the region will continue to provide hand hygiene products in the bathrooms but we encourage residents to bring their own sanitisers as a precaution.

“It is up to everyone to look after their own hygiene and ensure cleanliness to reduce the chance of contracting the virus.”

Cr Flannery said residents should monitor Queensland Health updates for up-to-date and reliable information.

“Council continues to work under the guidance provided by Queensland Health in managing the risks associated with coronavirus.

“Queensland Health is providing regular updates and advise for all everyone is the South East Queensland community.”
