Cleanaway truck driver wins International Award

Not all superheros drive supercars, just ask Mark Taylor, a garbage truck driver from Caboolture.

Mark works for Cleanaway, Moreton Bay Regional Council’s waste operator, and was presented with an International WOW! Award for delivering excellent service in the Eatons Hill community.

Acting Mayor and Division 9 Councillor Mike Charlton congratulated Mr Taylor on his achievements in helping to maintain strong, healthy communities in the region.

“The WOW! Awards recognizes people who are contributing to their communities and that’s certainly what happened when local resident Cassie Alexander nominated Mr Taylor for the award,” he said.

“Mark is an unsung hero in our community, putting smiles on children’s faces from a humble wave every Tuesday to delivering Easter Egg treats to families,” he said.

“A simple act of kindness goes a long way and to see the positive impact it’s having on kids and families is really inspiring.

“He’s setting a great example to our young residents showing them the importance of kindness and compassion.”

The WOW! Awards Customer Support Director Caroline Lovett said Mark’s gentle nature has made a “huge” positive impression on so many residents in Jocasta, Pegasus, Calypso and surrounding streets.

"It is wonderful to hear Mark talk about how much joy he gets from seeing the kids wave to him and insist they see the 'bin man' before they will go to school or shopping. It is this community spirit that generates a positive ripple in the community and makes Eatons Hill a great place to live,” she said.

"What I loved about this story is the positive power of social media. A compliment for Mark on a community Facebook page was picked up and turned into an award. The post generated lots of lovely comments for not only Mark, but other waste management truck drivers in the region."

If you know someone’s in the community doing the right thing then nominate them for a WOW! Award. For more information on the award head to: https://www.thewowawards.com.au/
