Key investment in sport, roads and coastal protection are highlights in Moreton Bay Regional Council’s 2019/20 Budget for Division 2.

Councillor for Division 2 Peter Flannery said more than $3.7 million would be allocated to upgrade Paradise Road from Morayfield Road to Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex.

“Following the successful opening of the new multi-million-dollar world-class Football Precinct at Burpengary, we need to accommodate soccer’s incredible popularity in our community by ensuring we have additional infrastructure to access these facilities,” Cr Flannery said.

“I am also pleased to announce council will invest $490,000 to replace two heat pumps at the 50-metre pool at the Burpengary Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre to provide a safe and reliable pool operation for patrons.”

Cr Flannery said Budget 19/20 would also continue council’s commitment to ongoing road and stormwater infrastructure upgrades across Division 2.

“Road safety is a priority for this council, which is why we are investing more than $5.8 million for a safe, efficient, reliable and integrated transport network,” he said.

“We’ve allocated $2.4 million for the intersection and road upgrade at Caboolture Aerodrome Road, another $2 million for road resurfacing around Division 2, $1.17 million for a road pavement upgrade at Arthur Drewett Drive, Burpengary East, $45,000 towards design of the future upgrade of Buckley Road Burpengary East and an additional $45,000 towards design of a future pavement upgrade for Warroo Drive at Deception Bay.

“Stormwater and coastal infrastructure will also receive a major cash boost, with $600,000 to replace the existing protective wall at Beachmere Lake and more than $1 million to upgrade the stormwater pipes at Old Bay Road in Burpengary East, which is part of an overall project worth more than $2 million over two financial years.

“Additionally, I am also pleased to announce we’ve earmarked $60,000 as part of a $90,000 project over two years, for weed management at Burpengary Creek between O’Brien Road and Springfield Drive to reduce the impact of flood flows in the local area.”

Cr Flannery said council had also committed more than $170,000 for Division 2 libraries including $15,000 for the design of a courtyard upgrade at Burpengary Library to occur in 20/21 and the $164,000 revamp of public amenities at Deception Bay Library.
