Judy Dohle, one of the Volunteers of the Year

Judy Dohle’s contribution to preserving and promoting Moreton Bay’s local history is something Moreton Bay locals will be able to enjoy for generations to come.

Acting Mayor Mike Charlton said Judy was named one of three Australia Day Volunteers of the Year for her work at the Pine Heritage Museum and role as President of the North Pine Historical Society.

“Judy has devoted incredible time and energy towards the research, protection and accessibility of local history within Moreton Bay,” said Cr Charlton.

“She has worked tirelessly to keep the history of our region alive and that’s something we can all be thankful for.”

Judy said she’s excited to celebrate this Australia Day for a number of reasons.

“This Australia Day will be 20 years exactly since this museum was opened,” said Judy.

“I could joke and say ‘oh gee look a mickey mouse watch’ but yes, the Volunteer of the Year Award - that beats a mickey mouse watch.

“From the small museum we started with to what we have now, all the improvements, all the extensions and all the things continuing to change here, I’m looking forward to even more in the future.”

Division 7 Councillor Denise Sims said Judy’s dedication to sharing Moreton Bay’s history with the community and visitors was worth celebrating.

“It’s an honour to pay tribute to the special people in our community like Judy,” said Cr Sims.

“The dedication Judy has shown in sharing Moreton Bay history with the community is invaluable and was encouraged by Judy’s late husband Eric who was just as passionate about local history.”
