Did you know that Australia is home to more than 60 different microbat species? Around 30 of these tiny creatures live right here in South East Queensland. The smallest, the Little Forest Bat, weighs just 3 grams, that is lighter than a five-cent coin! The largest is the Yellow-bellied Sheathtail Bat, which can weigh up to 60 grams.

Microbats might be small, but they are mighty. Each night, they eat up to 40% of their body weight in insects. That's thousands of mozzies gone before you even notice them! This makes them a natural pest controller and a big help to the environment.

This special event is your chance to learn more about these amazing animals. Join bat enthusiast and PhD candidate Robin Rowland for an evening of discovery. Robin will share fascinating facts about microbats, their role in nature, and how they cope with living close to people. Robin's passion for wildlife and research into how bats live alongside humans will have you hooked.

As the sun sets, the adventure begins. After the talk, grab a handheld echo-meter detector and head out for a guided walk around Kumbartcho Sanctuary. These clever devices will help us listen in and even locate microbats as they dart through the night sky. Arrive at 5:45 PM for a 6:00 PM start so you don’t miss a thing.

Come along and uncover the hidden world of microbats after dark!
