About the facilitator

Norton Fredericks (they/he) was born in 1990 in Tulmur, Ipswich. Norton is an early-career interdisciplinary visual artist and workshop facilitator. He has a mixed European and Aboriginal Australian (Murri) heritage and currently lives on Kombumerri Country on the Gold Coast.

Norton’s practice-based research often sits at the intersection between art and science. It examines the external forces that impact both the human experience and the surrounding environment. His work explores themes of environmental threats, post-naturalism, queer ecologies, and intersectional identity.

Norton creates using mostly historical pre-industrial techniques across fibre, textiles, metals, pottery and photography mediums while drawing from their knowledge of chemistry, environmental sustainability and ancient crafts. Norton imbues his work with geographical memories and examines how environmental variables respond to materials. Learn more about Norton by visiting his website.
