Suburban Neighbourhood place type

The Strategic framework outlines the 20-year vision for growth and development in the Moreton Bay Region. It divides the region into 13 place types. These place types explain the level of growth and form of development that is expected in different neighbourhoods and communities throughout the Moreton Bay Region. Suburban neighbourhoods are one of these 13 place types.

Council’s vision for Suburban Neighbourhoods is that they are characterised by low density, low rise housing with detached dwellings as the predominant form of housing.

Suburban Neighbourhoods have limited capacity to change in the foreseeable future. Houses in these areas will continue to be refurbished to accommodate changing household tastes and needs. However, the redevelopment of these properties is unlikely.

In some circumstances, council may encourage the development of local convenience shopping facilities in areas where there are currently no facilities within walking distance

Where can I find a Suburban Neighbourhood?

Suburban Neighbourhoods can be found throughout the Moreton Bay Region including the established communities of Bellmere, Eatons Hill, Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, and Narangba.

Why are Suburban Neighbourhoods important?

Suburban Neighbourhoods accommodate a substantial part of the Moreton Bay Region’s existing population and provide an alternative to current and future more intensely developed areas.
