Council will carry out scheduled maintenance works to the Bribie Gardens lock and weir from July 2024. The lock gates will close for approximately 7 weeks while Council drains the lock bay.
The works align with the canal's long-term maintenance plan.
Schedule of works
The lock gates will close to boat traffic on 13 August 2024 and will re-open on Saturday, 19 October 2024. Scheduling the works in the winter months aims to reduce the impact on boat users.
About the works
The required maintenance is to ensure continued serviceability and allow safe recreational boating. The scope of work also includes the installation of a cathodic protection system. This system aims to prolong the life of the lock and weir.
The planned scope of works includes:
- draining the lock bay, and general washing-down and clean-up
- concrete repairs and installation of cathodic protection system
- replacement of gate seals and repairs to gate steelwork
- repair and replacement of fenders
- replacement of safety handrails and fencing
- overhaul and general servicing of gearboxes and actuators
- replacement of lock compound concrete capping slabs
- maintenance of lock bay shutters.
Alternative boating arrangements
Residents will need to make alternative arrangements if they want to use their boat during this time.
Options include moving boats to another location or using the boat ramp located at the corner of Phoenix Avenue and Allamanda Drive.
