About your rates

Council issues rate notices quarterly in July, October, January, and April and are due and payable 30 days after the issue date on the notice. Contact Council for a copy of your rates notice. If you are having trouble understanding your rates notice, refer to Your rates notice explained.

Interest

Council charges interest of 8 percent per annum compounding daily to the outstanding balance on overdue rates. Interest is levied under the Local Government Act 2009 and the Local Government Regulation 2012 (Section 133).

Payment options

Ratepayers can pay their rates notice in person at a customer service centre, online using MBRC Online Services or by post. Council also provides fortnightly, monthly, and quarterly direct debit options. Learn more about paying your rates.

What if I am unable to pay my rates by the due date?

Council offers ratepayers the option to enter a payment plan where you can pay your rates by instalments. During the term of the payment plan you will not receive any reminder or final notices. However, interest will continue to accrue on overdue balances.

Refer to Rates payment plan for more information or to enter into a payment plan.

Providing authority to a third party

Council can only share rating information with the property owner or an authorised third party.

Property owners can authorise a third party to make changes or enquire about their rates account on their behalf by completing a Rates Authority form.(PDF, 296KB)
