Moreton Bay Region’s libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms, skate parks, barbecues and off-leash dog areas will re-open this Saturday.

In line with Government restrictions, the use of these facilities will be limited to 10 people at a time and all social distancing provisions still apply.

Mayor Peter Flannery emphasised the importance of continuing to follow the rules through the slow transition back to normality.

“After being cooped-up at home with the kids, I’m just as excited as everyone else to get back outside and enjoy our free public amenities,” he said.

“Our residents have been among the best in South East Queensland at abiding by social distancing restrictions over the past few months, and it’s essential that we keep that up.

“We aren’t out of the woods yet which is why you’ll see ‘Your Safety is in Your Hands’ signs up at facilities like playgrounds, public barbeques and dog parks.

“Your safety is in your hands and I trust locals to take all necessary precautions to make sure we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“That means continuing to use hand sanitiser and if you choose to use facilities like outdoor gym equipment or a barbeque, clean them before use.

“We’re currently in the process of cleaning all our libraries before reopening, and our staff have been trained to maintain social distancing, provide sanitisers, wipe down all surfaces and quarantine returned items for 24 hours.”

Cr Flannery said Moreton Bay Region’s ten library branches would reopen with extended hours to give patrons greater flexibility and find visitation times that suit them best.

“All our libraries except Woodford and Deception Bay are now open until 6pm each weeknight and each one will have a special late night opening sometime during the week,” he said.

“While we’re excited to reopen, your safety is our top priority. So only 10 customers will be allowed at a time in a library following a one-in, one-out policy to avoid overcrowding.

“And you will be able to spend up to 15 minutes browsing for books or 30 minutes using the public computers, which can be booked via phone, email or online.”

The late night opening for each library is as follows:

  • Albany Creek - Thursday until 8:00 PM
  • Arana Hill - Tuesday until 8:00 PM (Arana Hills library is currently under renovations)
  • Bribie island - Thursday until 7:00 PM
  • Burpengary - Thursday until 7:00 PM
  • Caboolture - Tuesday until 8:00 PM
  • Deception Bay - Tuesday until 7:00 PM
  • North Lakes - Thursday until 8:00 PM
  • Redcliffe - Friday until 8:00 PM
  • Strathpine - Tuesday until 8:00 PM
