City of Moreton Bay today announced two new community leases for just $1 a year as part of Council’s proud commitment to supporting local organisations and sporting groups.
The local organisations who will benefit from these community leases are:
- The Lions Club of Brisbane – Bunya Inc. - 10 years
- Rivers Baptist Church Soccer Club Incorporated – 5 years.
Mayor Peter Flannery noted that supporting local community groups by taking the pressure off rent and a premises, was a no brainer for Council.
“We’re proud to be supporting two more local groups in City of Moreton Bay, creating opportunities for them to deliver high quality, inclusive and affordable services without the burden of an expensive lease.
“Council supports many groups through our 392 lease agreements, including not-for-profit organisations delivering community, cultural, sporting, recreational and environmental benefits to City of Moreton Bay’s communities.
“With 118 sporting field permits currently in place across our City, investing in local sporting groups is extremely important to us. Our great facilities, convenient connectivity, and active community make City of Moreton Bay a destination of choice for sporting competitions, serving as a source of inspiration for the next generation of athletes.”
Councillor Yvonne Barlow (Div 7) said the new lease for Rivers Baptist Church Soccer Club will help expand sporting opportunities and strengthen local involvement.
"Our goal is clear; we want to empower our community and create opportunities that lead to stronger health outcomes and benefits for all. In the lead-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it’s important we support local sporting clubs and encourage active lifestyles within our City.”
Councillor Matt Constance (Div 10) said the leases are a simple way we can encourage these groups to continue their incredibly important connections within our local community.
“By supporting community organisations like The Brisbane-Bunya Lions Club, we’re helping them to grow and invest in better programs for all the community to enjoy.”
