Bribie Islanders are celebrating the opening of the most picturesque fitness park in South East Queensland with free personal trainer bootcamp sessions starting this Saturday 16 October.

Mayor Peter Flannery said Council built the state-of-the-art $300,000 fitness equipment at Banksia Beach Park thanks to COVID stimulus funding from the State Government.

“If you’ve ever wanted to work out but didn’t want to be locked into a lengthy gym contract then this brand-new fitness park in the heart of Banksia Beach Esplanade is perfect for you,” he said.

“Council has partnered with Urban Play and local personal trainer Lisa Beaton from All Inclusive Fitness who have agreed to put on three free bootcamp sessions at 7am on consecutive Saturday’s (16, 23, 30 October), so you have no reason not to give it a go.

“The great thing about these state-of-the-art facilities at Solander Esplanade is that they’re free to use all year round and they’re designed for every level of fitness and age group.

“And who wouldn’t want to do their own personal spin class while watching the sunset over the pristine waters of the Pumicestone Passage and silhouette of the Glass House Mountains on the horizon.

“I’d like to thank the State Government who made this project possible by contributing a significant amount of the total value through its COVID stimulus program.”

Pumicestone State MP Ali King said this was a great example of two levels of government working together to create great outcome for locals.

“The Queensland Government is dedicated to building better communities right across the state and this will no doubt be a boost to many Bribie Islanders who want to stay fit and active,” she said.

“What’s amazing about this equipment is you can scan a QR code on the machine to get more detailed demonstrations on how to use it or simply use the printed instructions.

“It’s great to be able to work with Council on projects like this that will have a real positive outcome for the community as we strive to bounce back from COVID.”

Councillor Brooke Savige said this was one of many outdoor fitness parks that are being installed in the Bribie Island and surrounds area this financial year as a direct response to calls from the community.

“Our residents have told us they want more recreational facilities to keep fit and healthy and this shows that we’re not only listening but we’re delivering,” she said.

“It’s no secret that an active community is a happy and healthy community, so this amazing new fitness park will be a huge boost for Banksia Beach and surrounding suburbs.”
