Mattresses
Do you have an old mattress that needs recycling? City of Moreton Bay residents can dispose of up to four mattresses and four mattress bases per year. Disposal is free of charge at participating Council waste facilities.
Recycling your mattress helps recover valuable resources and reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill.
How are mattresses recycled?
When a mattress is collected for recycling, it is:
- fed into a specialised shredding machine
- separated into different materials, including steel, foam and fabric
- processed so the steel can be recovered and recycled into new metal products
- shredded to reduce volume of remaining materials.
Help your mattress last longer
Taking care of your mattress can extend its life and delay the need for a replacement.
- Use a mattress protector to reduce wear and stains.
- Rotate your mattress regularly to promote even wear.
- Follow the manufacturers care instructions.
- Keep your mattress clean and dry.
- Ensure it is properly supported by a suitable bed base.
