Deceased animals

Small deceased animals, up to the size of a dog, are accepted at Council’s major waste facilities for disposal.

Disposal of small to medium sized dead animals are permitted 7 days a week, subject to 24 hours’ notice being provided for large animals (horses, alpacas etc) or for more than three small animals at the same time.

Contact Council waste services for information on the disposal of all livestock and larger animals.

A deceased animal which may have been contaminated with an agent infectious to humans or classed as a bio-security risk for animal health is NOT accepted for disposal at any Council waste facility.

Notes and conditions

  • Disposal of dead animals is only permitted Monday - Friday. Contact Council 24 hours prior so arrangements can be made.
  • Deceased animals must be bagged and contained prior to attending the waste facility.
  • Disposal of all dead animals will incur a fee.
