Search cemetery records and genealogy research

Council maintains records of individuals buried or interred at our local cemeteries.

Use our online tool to search cemetery records to find a person's interment or grave site, or to help research your family history and genealogy.

Only burial records from City of Moreton Bay cemeteries are available through the search tool.

Tips to help you search

When searching for a deceased person, you can improve your chance of finding them by:

  • entering their name as precisely as possible
  • searching by all or part of their surname
  • trying different spelling variations of their name.

For example, look for Petersen instead of Peterson, or try Peter.

Many people used their middle names as first names. Try searching both names separately, or just the surname.

Incorrect or missing information

Some records come from old burial registers that may become damaged over time, making them difficult to transcribe.

If you find any errors, we can update the official burial records. You will need to supply a copy of the birth certificate, death certificate, or photograph of the headstone. Ensure the information on the headstone is clearly readable.

Email this information to our Cemeteries Team at council@moretonbay.qld.gov.au.

We cannot amend official burial records using newspaper clippings or family history research.
