Unregistered cat and dog systematic inspection program

All cats and dogs in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area are required to be registered in accordance with:

  • Cats - Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011
  • Dogs - Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008

There are many responsible cat and dog owners in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area. However, at present, there are cat and dog owners that, on our records, have not paid their current registration. Additionally, there is a likelihood of a significant number of cat and dog owners across the region who have not registered their cat and/or dog at all.

If a programmed approach to the registration of cats and dogs is not introduced, there is potential for increased non-compliance and complacency amongst cat and dog owners. This diminishes Council’s capacity in addressing issues regarding the keeping of a cat and/or dog in the region.

For this reason, on 29 June 2022, Council approved systematic inspection programs for both unregistered cats and dogs.

Moreton Bay Regional Council will conduct a systematic inspection program in accordance with the Local Government Act 2009 - Section 134 (Approving an inspection program).

The program will be conducted from:

  • Program 1: 26 July 2022 to 30 September 2022
