Park naming proposed to remember local Burpengary family

A local family with roots in Burpengary East dating back over a century may be memorialised with a park in Briston Avenue named in their memory.
The Scudamore family’s contributions to the local community and their historical connections to Burpengary East are proposed to be recognised by naming the currently unnamed park after them.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the Scudamore family had resided in the area for over 100 years, contributing greatly to the area.
“The family have been in Burpengary since 1917 and farmed the land that the park now sits on for over 40 years,” he said.
“Over that time the family members have been active community members and volunteers, bringing great value and community spirit to Burpengary, Deception Bay and surrounds.
“Naming a park, located on what was historically their land, is a small thing Council can do to recognise their contributions over that time.”
Councillor Mark Booth (Division 2) said it was important to acknowledge the contributions of residents in a localised way.
“This park naming will help us to remember the history of the Scudamore family and their work within the community,” he said.
“Most recently, before their passing in 2022, Brian and Isabella Scudamore were active members of the Deception Bay Progress Association, with Brian being Vice President for several years.
“Brian was also a volunteer who helped to establish the Deception Bay Auxiliary Fire Station.
“Over their 106 years in the area, the family has given back in so many ways and this park naming acknowledges both their great community spirit and their historical connection to Moreton Bay.”
The currently unnamed parkland at 41-47 Briston Avenue, Burpengary East is proposed to be called ‘Scudamore Park’. City of Moreton Bay will now seek public feedback on the action. Non-supportive submissions received over the 28-day consultation period will see the proposed action brought back to Council for re-consideration.
Public feedback can be made by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org or via written submission to: PO Box 159, Caboolture Q 4510.
