With a picturesque creek, ample picnic grounds, and nearby parking, Andy Williams Park has long been a hidden gem for families to ‘escape’ the city without really leaving home.

But the park’s amenities block is totally out of date and under pressure as its popularity continues to grow, so it will be demolished and replaced with a brand new toilet block.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the works were essential to meet modern expectations and standards.

“This will be a $644,000 investment to build a completely new amenities block that’s disability complaint with two ambulant toilets, a unisex cubicle and two sanitary tanks,” he said.

“While construction works are underway, we will have a temporary toilet onsite to try to minimise any inconvenience.

“Best of all this building project will be delivered by Brendale-based Kimini Constructions, which shows Council’s Local Procurement Policy is working to get more contracts in the hands of local companies.”

Cr Darren Grimwade (Div 11) said it was a great picnic spot with parking nearby.

“Locals have spoken with me about the amenity block and I’m proud to be working for a Council that listens to and acts on their concerns,” he said.

“If you’ve not discovered the beauty of this incredible park, make it a weekend must do!

“There are a lot of shallow rock pools, so it’s safe for kids to paddle, and parents can relax more because the water isn’t so deep here.

“We’re also working on plans to improve parking and amenities further along Cedar Creek Road in response to concerns from locals, as the area becomes increasingly popular as a destination in SEQ.”

Today’s approval of these works means construction will start next month (June 2023) and be complete by February 2024, this timeframe allows for potential weather impacts and to plan the works schedule so that it minimises traffic disruptions along Cedar Creek Road.
