Moreton Bay disaster preparedness course
The disaster preparedness course is designed to be delivered by community members, organisations, teachers and tutors working with culturally and linguistically diverse members of our community. This includes members of the community with limited or no English and low levels of literacy skills.
The course uses plain language, visual learning and practical activities to support people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. This helps build an understanding of disaster preparedness for themselves and those around them. It can be adapted for use in community ground, education settings and other learning environments.
This course is structured to build an understanding of the importance of preparing for a disaster, how best to respond during a disaster, and what services or resources may assist a person or family to recover after a disaster.
Workbooks are developed as one-hour lessons, supported by a comprehensive teacher guide.
Teacher guide and lesson workbooks
The workbooks are PDF's that can be downloaded and completed on your computer, or you can print them.
It is suggested that you complete lessons 1 and 2 first to set the foundation of understanding.
Lesson 9 discusses heatwaves which is a highly recommended lesson to take before summer. This is due to the large number of people impacted each year in Queensland and across Australia.
