Nathan Road Sports Ground expansion project (Stage 2)

Council is delivering new sporting infrastructure to the Nathan Road Sports Ground in Rothwell. This will support the growing demand for community sport and recreation in the city. We are delivering these changes under the Nathan Road Sports Ground expansion project.

Scope of works

The project includes the construction of:

  • a senior AFL field
  • a multi-purpose sports field for AFL and cricket
  • new LED sports field lighting
  • new drainage and irrigation systems
  • additional car parking
  • modern amenities and changing facilities for players, officials and visitors.

Project benefits

Once completed, the project will provide a permanent home for the Rothwell Tigers AFL Club. This enables the club to finish relocating from its existing location at Rothwell Park.

Expanded, modern facilities will create greater opportunities for training and competition in AFL and cricket. The project will also:

  • support year-round use with improved lighting, drainage and irrigation
  • improve access to the sports ground through upgrades to Nathan Road
  • expand on a high-quality community sporting hub in the Rothwell catchment area.
