Pockets of Wonder by Liana Wright

Artist statement

Samford is surrounded by a diverse landscape of natural and built environments - brimming with life of all shapes and sizes. We have flowing freshwater creeks, flourishing farms, and thriving mountain ranges. Within all of these environments, little nature surprises exist all around us, just waiting to be discovered.

We may look around and think that there’s not much going on. But when we take a closer look, we may notice a pademelon having morning tea; a snake curled up on the creek bed; or a vibrant, chatty bird settling nearby to say “hello”.

Pockets of Wonder’ offers glimpses of some of the wondrous gifts of nature we are surrounded by here in Samford. When we pause to be with our surroundings, we open ourselves to experiencing the tiny magical worlds that are waiting to be discovered.

I hope this artwork will inspire locals and visitors of all ages to weave micro mindfulness moments into their day, where they open themselves to noticing the pockets of wonder hidden everywhere. It’s such a special place we get to live and gather in.
