Wet weather and flash flooding update – 23 October
Published 23 October 2026
City of Moreton Bay is urging residents to stay alert this weekend, with more showers and storms forecast for Saturday.
After Thursday's heavy rain, ground across the City is saturated and many creeks are still running high.
Short bursts of heavy rain have potential to cause flash flooding quickly and with little warning. Roads that have reopened may close again.
Parts of the City of Moreton Bay received more than 270mm of rain in 24 hours, with intense falls on Thursday morning causing flash flooding and the closure of numerous roads.
In the 24 hours to 9am today, the highest rainfall recorded was 163mm at Moorina, with heavy falls also recorded at Caboolture, Morayfield and Dayboro.
The local SES has received 185 requests for assistance since midnight on 21 October, with 125 of those tasks completed as of 9am this morning
Water levels are decreasing in most areas of the City, while Hays Inlet is rising due to tide and the Stanley River is rising slowly in a delayed response to recent rainfall.
As of 10am this morning, 34 Council roads were closed and 5 Transport and Main Roads controlled roads were closed.
Youngs Crossing Road remains closed while North Pine Dam releases continue.
Meanwhile, TMR is on site at Bribie Island Road to assess its reopening.
Ongoing inspections continue to confirm road conditions and support the safe reopening of roads as floodwaters recede.
Residents should stay off flooded roads and remember: If It’s Flooded, Forget It.
Council sandbag stations are open and stocked and listed publicly on Council’s Disaster Dashboard website.
Residents will need to bring their own shovels to fill the sandbags and we encourage people to only take what they need so supplies can be shared with fellow Moreton Bay residents.
Some waste collection services continue to be impacted. As of this morning, there were 48 streets which Council was unable to provide service to due to flooding. Residents are advised to leave their bin out for collection where safe to do so and it will be serviced by Council as soon as practical.
We thank residents living on these impacted streets for their patience during this time.
All waste facilities are open as per normal operating hours.
Council officers have been on site to assess the impact of rain at Wyllie Park and sites throughout the City where people experience homelessness are camping.
We encourage anyone sleeping rough to move out of low-lying areas or sites near creeks or rivers to safer ground.
Residents are advised to know their risk, pay attention to warnings received and prepare as appropriate.
Residents are urged to use Council’s Disaster Dashboard and stay up to date with Moreton Alert following constant rainfall overnight that has resulted in road closures and flooding.
Council libraries are open for places of refuge with more details on the Disaster Dashboard.
Council’s Groovin’ in the Green event at Albany Creek’s Lemke Park this Sunday 25 October has been cancelled due to the ongoing wet weather and site conditions.
Residents planning on attending other events in Moreton Bay this weekend are urged to contact the relevant event organiser to confirm if their event is going ahead.
If urgent flood or storm assistance is required, contact the SES on 132 500.
