Gallery brings artistic flair outdoors

Residents and visitors to the City will have a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of artistic creativity when an outdoor gallery is unleashed across City of Moreton Bay later this year.

Funded by the Australian Government’s Public Art Initiative, as part of the South East Queensland (SEQ) City Deal, Council’s Outdoor Gallery will showcase works from 18 artists based on the theme Half a Million Imaginations.

Featuring well-known creatives including Phoebe Paradise, Man & Wah and Martin Edge, the works will explore how art and creative expression can foster an inclusive, diverse and connected City of Moreton Bay.

The works will be exhibited on billboards, light boxes and via projections at six outdoor spaces across the City.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said he couldn’t wait to see each project come to life in the inaugural 12-month exhibition, expected to be on display from late 2026.

“The Outdoor Gallery will enliven our public spaces and places, while providing opportunities for local and national artists to share their work with diverse audiences,” he said.

“The spread of public artworks across different sites reflects our polycentric City, and we hope it will encourage visitation from site to site."

“I have no doubt the Outdoor Gallery will become a wonderful attraction for our City, and I look forward to the team delivering new exhibitions each year."

Council facilitated an Artist Expression of Interest for the outdoor public art opportunities in 2025, attracting 79 responses from across Australia. Giving the Outdoor Gallery a local flavour, the inaugural exhibition will feature five artists from City of Moreton Bay.

The 18 chosen artists have embedded themselves in the local community, delivering creative workshops earlier in the year that attracted more than 575 participants, with plans for more workshops to be conducted.

The SEQ City Deal is a partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ). Council was granted $1.28 million under the Public Art Initiative for this project.
