City of Moreton Bay is a step closer to confirming the construction contractor for the much-anticipated four lane upgrade of Caboolture River Road, between Morayfield Road and Grant Road.

Councillors have unanimously resolved to enter into a contract with the recommended tenderer, with the expectation road construction works will be under way in the first half of 2027.

Mayor Peter Flannery said following the decision that Council’s CEO would finalise contract negotiations in accordance with legislative requirements.

"As soon as the contract is signed, I look forward to officially introducing the contractor to our Moreton Bay community," Mayor Flannery said.

“This long-awaited boost to one of Moreton Bay’s key east-west road connections cannot come quick enough for the thousands of locals that rely on it every day.

“Caboolture River Road has seen a lot of change over the past few decades. It’s no surprise the area is booming and more people are calling it home, thanks to its housing options and lifestyle amenities.

“The one thing that hasn’t changed is the road itself – with its two lanes struggling to meet the daily requirements of residents and businesses, especially during peak hours.

“This project is a huge vote of confidence in Morayfield and the emerging communities surrounding it – and recognises the crucial role this part of our City will play in shaping and building our future.”

The project includes funding from the Queensland Government and City of Moreton Bay and forms part of the Growth Area Compact, a commitment under the SEQ City Deal. The Queensland Government is providing $71 million towards the project, with City of Moreton Bay contributing $10 million.

The upgrade will involve:

  • Widening Caboolture River Road between Grant Road and Morayfield Road to provide two traffic lanes in each direction with a central median
  • Installing additional traffic turning lanes at key intersections
  • Installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Amy and Kenneth Streets
  • Upgrading the existing traffic lights at Grant Road and Morayfield Road
  • Changing access at Ben Street and Lorebury Drive to left in/left out only
  • Installing new cycling and pedestrian paths on both sides of the road.

Councillor Adam Hain (Division 3) said early preparation works would continue along the 1.2km project site over coming months.

“Our goal has been to get the corridor ready ahead of the road construction phase, so the project can be delivered safely and as efficiently as possible,” Cr Hain said.

“The additional traffic lanes will require a wider road footprint – which means existing electricity, telecommunication, sewer and water services have needed relocating.

“Some of these works have already finished, while others like water and sewer infrastructure will be shifted section by section through to early 2027.”

Cr Hain thanked local communities for their patience and understanding.

“It’s a big project in a busy and challenging setting,” Cr Hain said.

“But I’m sure everyone who depends on this road – to get to work, family, shops or schools – will value the upcoming works once all the improvements are open and operating from 2028.”
