EPIRBs and beacons

Collection of emergency locator and communication devices, including personal locator beacons, radios and tracking equipment, displayed on a white surface.

Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) need to be disposed of correctly to avoid accidental activation.

Every year, thousands of dollars are spent and important resources diverted searching for beacons that have been accidentally activated in waste facilities or landfill. Beacon batteries are hazardous items which should be disposed of appropriately.
