Are you a landowner in City of Moreton Bay who is passionate about protecting wildlife and bushland? The Land for Wildlife program could be for you.

Land for Wildlife is a free program for landholders who have native vegetation and wildlife habitat on their property. You'll learn about the ecosystems on your property with advice on managing threats like weeds and pest animals.

So far, the city has over 600 Land for Wildlife properties. That's over 4,125 hectares of protected habitat and 960 hectares under active restoration.

Benefits for landholders

A Land for Wildlife officer will work with the landholder to provide:

  • a custom-made property plan
  • expert guidance and resources on native plants, wildlife, weeds and pest animals
  • help restoring bushland and creating habitat corridors.

This is also an opportunity to join a growing network of nearly 7,000 landholders across South East Queensland. For eligible landholders, there's a pathway to a Voluntary Conservation Agreement.

Requirements for the program

Whether it's a bush block, farm, school, golf course or commercial land, your property could be eligible to join the Land for Wildlife program. To qualify, landholders must commit to protecting and enhancing all or part of their land for conservation. Landholders need at least one hectare of land with several assessable features, such as:

  • the type and condition of vegetation
  • the presence of threatened species or their habitat
  • waterways
  • how the property connects to the natural area.

These factors play a vital role in supporting native flora and fauna.
