Make your own wind chime mandalas

Next date: Tuesday, 04 August 2026 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Various designs of a mandala wind chime against a plain white background.

Come along to our wind chime mandala workshops and learn how to design one for yourself. Led by Sara Nejad, these workshops focus on bringing people of all ages and skill levels together to explore art and creativity.

In these hands-on sessions, you will make your own wind chime mandala that is as unique as you are.  You'll be guided step by step through turning a mandala into a functional wind chime to use in your very own home.

These community workshops combine drawing, reflection, and simple construction.  Join with other participants to connect through shared making and positive creative experiences.

The workshop series is designed to inspire you through creativity and connection. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes so you can make the most of these exciting workshops. Don’t forget to bring along any unique or personal items that you wish to add to your wind chime.

What to expect

In these workshops you can expect to:

  • learn about mandalas and their significance
  • journal to explore meaningful personal themes
  • sketch a mandala design of your own
  • transfer the design onto acrylic sheets
  • colour with waterproof permanent markers
  • assemble the wind chime using aluminium tubes, hooks, and fine string or wire.

About the facilitator

Sara Nejad is a Brisbane-based visual artist working across painting, mixed media, pyrography and installation.

She holds a Doctor of Visual Arts from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, where her research and studio practice explored themes of nature, belonging, and identity.

Born in Iran and shaped by extensive international travel, Sara’s work is deeply informed by sacred geometry and pattern traditions found across cultures, with particular influence from Persian art and Sufi philosophy.

Mandalas form a central visual and conceptual language in her practice, used to explore connection, transformation, and the relationship between inner experience and place.

Her recent Artist in Residence at the Museum of Brisbane combined large-scale installation with community-engaged projects that reflect her ongoing commitment to storytelling, cultural dialogue, and collective making.
