Rural place type

The Strategic framework outlines the 20-year vision for growth and development in the Moreton Bay region. It divides the region into 13 place types. These place types explain the level of growth and form of development that is expected in different neighbourhoods and communities throughout the Moreton Bay region. Rural areas is one of these 13 place types.

The Rural place type in the Moreton Bay region covers areas that predominantly cater for rural lifestyles and agricultural activities.

Rural places are sparsely populated areas with a distinct open and low density character, and they may also have scenic and environmental values.

The Rural place type is linked with Rural Townships, Key Extractive Resources and Special Area place types.

Where can I find a Rural place type?

Rural places cover a large part of the Moreton Bay region, primarily between the urban corridor and mountain ranges in the region’s west, and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council boundary to the north.

Rural places are important for maintaining areas for food production, protecting our region’s natural resources and providing lifestyle options to residents.

Rural places are an important component of the local economy, generating tourism-based economic income from event tourism, ecotourism, short stay accommodation and facilities and services that cater to day trippers.
