Redcliffe regions

Clontarf history

The suburb of Clontarf in Redcliffe City gained its name in the late nineteenth century.

Clontarf Beach history

Discover the history behind the 1971 decision to drop 'Beach' from Clontarf and Margate, as approved by the Queensland Place Names Board.

Kippa-Ring history

The word ‘Kippa-Ring’ derives from earthen rings used by the Aboriginal people for ritual gatherings.

Margate history

The Redcliffe suburb of Margate derives its name from a famous English seaside resort on the Isle of Thanet in Kent, England.

Redcliffe history

The name ‘Red Cliff Point’ was first mentioned by Matthew Flinders on his voyage of exploration along the east coast in 1799.

Rothwell history

The suburb of Rothwell was named for Thomas James Rothwell OBE.

Scarborough history

The suburb of Scarborough on the Redcliffe Peninsula derives its name from an English seaside resort.

Woody Point history

The name Woody Point seems to have evolved of its own accord.
