Australian Poetry Slam returns to City of Moreton Bay!
It's run by poets who believe words can change the world and they want to hear what you have to say.
You are invited to rip those scrawled leaves of passion from your notebook and ignite them on stage.
Be a part of the audience to judge the best in our region or bring your new poem and compete for a spot in the Queensland final.
Free. Bookings required. All ages. Hosted by Angela Peita. NB: Content warning | Most poetry slams are all ages and some content may not be suitable for children. Performances may include strong language and/or adult themes.

Looking to compete?
If you have ever wanted to tell your story with oomph, perform your poems with power or just deliver a speech without a slide-show clicker, our Masterclass workshop is for you.
Polish your skills before the performance. It will help you select from the thousands of metaphors running through your head. Learn how to slam your poetry – how to move a live audience with your words.
Word Travels’ award-winning spoken word artist, Angela Peita inspires you to get your thoughts on paper and then deliver them on stage.
Masterclass starts at 5:00 PM. NB: Separate bookings are required for class and slam. Slammers book in as audience and sign on to slam on the night from 6:30 PM.
About Australian Poetry Slam
APS is the cupped hand amplifying the shouts of more than 2000 new and emerging writers annually.
Share your words for two minutes on the mic. By throwing your ideas into the slam-storm, you could be chosen as the 2026 Australian Poetry Slam-bassador and offered an international writers’ festival tour worth about $20,000.
The host randomly selects five judges from the audience. After each performance, judges hold up scorecards using a 1-10 scale.
This APS Heat audience will send two writers to represent Moreton Bay in a performance at the Queensland Final. The top 16 in the country make it to the National Final at Sydney Opera House on 25 October.

About our MC
Angela Peita is a spoken word artist, youth worker, workshop facilitator and live art producer. She is co-founder and co-director of Ruckus Slam, the hugely popular Brisbane slam and arts company.
Angela has performed around Australia and overseas, and has appeared at such festivals as Woodford Folk Festival, Island Vibe festival, and Jungle Love. She has been published online through Pressure Gauge Press and Bareknuckle Books, has been a Queensland poetry slam finalist, has won Bellingen Writers Festival slams people’s choice award, been a semi-finalist at Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup and most recently was a nominee for the Paul Sherman Community Poetry award.
