Moreton Bay Region Art Prize

The Moreton Bay Region Art Prize is an annual exhibition and prize that builds on the strong foundation and legacy of the Moreton Bay Region Art Awards, to support and celebrate local artists.

Entry is free and open to local residents and/or First Nations people who identify as Kabi Kabi, Turrbal or Jinibara Traditional Owner groups but live off Country.

The prize pool totals $10,000 with a non-acquisitive prize of $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, $1,500 for third place and $500 for the people’s choice. The exhibition of finalists will be held at Pine Rivers Art Gallery from Saturday 7 May - 4 June 2022.

This prize is for entrants over 18 years of age. Artists under 18 years are encouraged to check out the Moreton Bay Region Youth Art Awards.

As part of the 2022 the Moreton Bay Region Art Prize there is a new opportunity this year. The Outdoor Gallery offers six artists the chance to see their artworks on display across the region.

About the Outdoor gallery

  • Artists can enter the Outdoor Gallery and Moreton Bay Art Prize but each entry must be a different artwork.
  • Six finalists will be chosen for the Outdoor Gallery by an independent judge based on criteria that includes concept, workmanship, suitability for scale and originality
  • Photography and design support will be provided to each selected finalist of the Outdoor Gallery.
  • Each finalist will have their artwork printed on two vinyl banners measuring 400 centimeters by 100 centimeters each for display across the Moreton Bay Region and receive a licence fee of $200.

All applications are made via the online form. Applications close at 11:59 PM on 10 March 2022.

To enter you will need:

  • to read and agree to the terms and conditions(PDF, 179KB)
  • a short artist statement (max 50 words)
  • a short artwork statement (max 50 words)
  • a good quality photograph of your artwork. Please note - finalists will be selected from the photograph provided. Read our fact sheet(PDF, 717KB) for tips on how to take a good photograph.

Eligibility

To be eligible to enter you must:

  • have been a resident of the Moreton Bay Regional Council local government area from or before 11 January 2022 or identify as Kabi Kabi, Turrbal or Jinibara Traditional Owner groups
  • be over 18 years of age on or before 10 March 2022
  • artists may enter either the Art Prize or the Outdoor Gallery or both. Only one artwork may be entered per person into each section. If entering both the Art Prize and the Outdoor Gallery the entrant must submit a different work for each.

Key dates

Moreton Bay Region Art Prize

  • Applications close 11:59 PM 10 March 2022.
  • Finalists will be notified by 5 April 2022.
  • Artwork to be delivered on Saturday 30 April 2022 between 11:30 AM - 6:00 PM to Pine Rivers Art Gallery.
  • Exhibition will run from Saturday 7 May - 4 June 2022. Official opening and announcement of winners will be held during the duration of the exhibition.
  • Artwork can be collected on Monday 6 June 2022 between 11:30 AM - 6:00 PM from Pine Rivers Art Gallery.

Outdoor Gallery

  • Applications close 11:59 PM 10 March 2022.
  • Finalists will be notified by 24 March 2022.
  • Work will be displayed from Saturday 7 May - 5 June 2022.
