Preservation Stations

Preserve your precious family photographs, slides, negatives and documents by creating archive quality digital copies at our library and museums Preservation Stations. At some locations, you can even digitise your old cassettes, videos and more.
Choose to donate copies of your items to the local history collection to share with the community and preserve for future generations and researchers.
Preservation Stations are free to use, however, bookings are required and limited to one session per person per day. Library membership will be required to access some services at Library venues.

What to bring
Your photographs, slides, negatives, documents, audio or video recordings to digitise (check the equipment available at your location).
Somewhere to store your digital copies such as a USB, portable hard drive or bring the login details for your email or Dropbox account (the internet speed at some locations may be limited, a USB or portable hard drive is preferred).
For audio cassette conversion please bring a USB or portable hard drive is required. You may also like to bring your headphones (3.5mm standard headphone jack) to listen along to your recording.
What can I digitise?
You are welcome to digitise your personal and family items such as photographs, birth certificates or home videos. You cannot digitise items where the copyright or intellectual property is held by another organisation or person such as tv shows, movies, music cassettes or published books. Contact the local history team if you are unsure.
The following services are available at varying locations:
- A4 scanning: documents, photographs, slides and negatives
- A3 scanning: documents, photographs, slides and negatives
- Video conversion: convert VHS tapes using our VCR player, alternatively connect any video playing equipment with composite video, RCA stereo or SCART out
- Cassette conversion: audio cassettes to MP3.
Bookings
Column one has the location of the preservation station, the second column contains the opening hours, the third contains the different services available at the station and the fourth and final column contains how to book and/or contact the station.
