Redcliffe District history

First Nations

Before European settlement in 1824, the area now known as Redcliffe was home to the Gubbi Gubbi and the Ningy Ningy people, part of the Undambi people.

European arrival

The settlement of Redcliffe by the early Europeans is directly linked to Australia’s convict heritage.

Settlement and federation

When the decision was made to relocate the settlement to the banks of the Brisbane River in 1825, Redcliffe was deserted.

Redcliffe regions

From ancient bora rings to seaside resorts, discover the deep and varied history of the suburbs that make up Redcliffe district, Queensland’s first settlement city.
