Blak Creatives Exchange

18 Jul 2026 - 14 Nov 2026

Gallery exhibition of household items

Blak Creatives Exchange is a professional development program where participants are supported to produce an exhibition from concept to completion.

Developed in partnership with Munimba-ja’s Blak Creatives Program, the project shares the voices of emerging First Nations creatives who, working alongside the City of Moreton Bay Gallery Team, will learn the foundations of exhibition production. The resulting exhibition will share a fresh interpretation of the City's Art Collection from the perspectives of the Blak Creatives cohort.

About the exhibition

(BE)LONGING reflects on experiences of longing for connection to culture, to kin, to self and to Country due to the ongoing impacts of colonisation and displacement.

The selected artworks consider how connection can continue to exist through inherited memory, intuition, story and feeling. They acknowledge that absence itself is not empty but continues to carry kinship, knowledge and cultural presence.

Through shared experiences of longing, belonging, loss and renewal, the exhibition reveals diverse journeys of maintaining, reclaiming and strengthening cultural connections.

Based on Kabi Kabi Country, Blak Creatives is an Indigenous-led professional development program providing culturally safe support for First Nations artists and creatives. This project highlights collaboration and community, connecting cultural practice with professional pathways.

Exhibition developed by City of Moreton Bay in collaboration with Blak Creatives and Munimba-ja.
