Our Story Live: Under the Victorian woman's skirt
Next date: Thursday, 12 February 2026 | 10:30 AM
to 12:00 PM
From petticoats to pantaloons, what exactly was under the voluminous layers of clothing worn by women in colonial times?
In this ‘reverse strip’ performance, Dorothy Walsh from the Queensland Colonial Association demonstrates layer by layer the clothing worn by Victorian-era women. She will explain the history of fabric, style and the dressing of an 1860s gentle woman.
Dorothy is an historian and the secretary of the association, a re-enactment society founded to create interest in the history of Queensland.
The QCA has participated in many important events staged in and around the Brisbane area, educating the public about life in Queensland between the 1800 and 1900s.
After the event, explore the Out on the Town exhibition.
