Join Aaron Butt, first-place award recipient of the Moreton Bay Art Prize 2024, for an afternoon exploring painting techniques on non-white surfaces.

In this two-hour workshop, Aaron’s beginner-friendly approach will have you experimenting with painting on wood, paper, and canvas. 

Through guided exercises and hands-on experimentation, you will:

• Delve into fundamental concepts of colour theory.
• Discuss the distinction between painting and drawing.
• Contemplate what it truly means for a piece of art to be 'finished.'

You’ll learn how to harness the unique properties of each surface and explore the effects of different brushes to create varied effects and textures.

About the artist

Aaron Butt is an artist based in Ningi, who explores light and form in his local landscape.

He creates paintings in both oil and acrylic on canvas and found materials that capture momentary light conditions, predominantly around Sandstone Point but also in locations he has travelled.
