Art Social is a monthly opportunity for creativity at Pine Rivers Art Gallery.

One Saturday a month, you’re invited to explore a new method, technique, or way of artmaking. Each session begins with a guided tour of current exhibitions.

These workshops aim to activate your creative thinking and willingness to experiment in a relaxed, social setting.

Cost $15. Bookings required.

No experience is needed. All materials are supplied.

Pine Rivers Art Gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Saturday August 30: Mosaic for the future

Mosaic is an art form comprising intricately placed tiles, known as tesserae, to create a larger, unique composition.

Mosaics are long-lasting and hardy. Some of the oldest surviving testaments to history are mosaics.

This workshop will explore mosaic as a way of engaging with climate change. Both processes are slow and gradual and accumulate bit by bit.

Attendees will learn the fundamentals of mosaic. They will create a unique piece of art inspired by the themes of the current exhibition, Earth Refuge.

Saturday September 27: Weaving together

Discover the soothing rhythm of weaving in this hands-on workshop.

Attendees can experiment with warp and weft, using a variety of interesting fabric and textile materials. They will learn to construct a simple cardboard loom.

In the current exhibition Earth Refuge, you’re invited to imagine a world where we have lost our connection to the natural environment. This workshop will help you reconnect with the small ways you can create creative change.

Saturday October 25: Collaged conveniences

Imagine you’re in the year 3000.

Looking around, what do you see? What does our natural environment look like? What’s missing from the picture?

In Earth Refuge, Merinda Davies memorializes things that matter to us. She asks us to imagine a world where things like trees and coffee are no longer available.

This workshop will challenge you to create a collaged ode to something you’d lose through climate inaction. It might be seeing the Great Barrier Reef or the convenience of an afternoon cup of coffee.

Dedicate some time to remembering these things and why they matter to you, pasting layers of meaning through the art of collage.
