18 May 2024 | 01:30 PM - 03:30 PM

People sitting down doing crafts

Enjoy a peaceful afternoon of creativity with artist and expressive arts therapist, Tira Dowling. Explore different art processes and materials in these monthly supportive guided workshops. Come along and activate your creativity in a comfortable and relaxed studio space.

All materials are included at the workshop and all skill levels are welcome. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy or bring an apron.

Saturday 9 March: Assembled stories

Assembled stories is a workshop that explores texture, patterns and layers. It is inspired by the current exhibition, One foot on the ground, one foot in the water. Participants will draw connections to their gallery experience, and self and creative process. Then, explore those linked concepts via multimedia art-making delivered through an expressive, semi-structured lens. Activate your senses by exploring and assembling handmade paper, textiles, lines, patterns, colours and natural items.

Saturday 13 April: Homes, houses and watercolour

Homes, houses and watercolour explores the idea of home. Participants will create simple outline drawings inspired by provided images or their own homes. Capture illustrative designs with line work and watercolour. Connect to your sense of home as a structure and within yourself.

Saturday 18 May: Nature's beauty through paper lanterns

This workshop celebrates silhouettes and patterns seen in nature. Participants will explore layering paper and natural items to create a paper lantern. Explore mindful and sensory themes that ground one to nature and self.

Saturday 8 June: Mixed media portrait discovery

This workshop explores the concept of the self through an array of art materials. Explore a variety of processes to layer and build a mixed-media deconstructed portrait. Linked to the current exhibitions, this workshop aims to activate the senses through an immersive lens of discovery.

About the facilitator

Art is a way of knowing, of understanding oneself and forming threads of connection to the inner world within each of us.

Tira Dowling has followed this thread of curiosity throughout her career. She is passionate about the relationship to self and guiding others to discover these threads of knowing within them.

Tira has explored many areas of the globe, to wonder, consider and learn about herself, other culture and the world we inhabit. As a therapist, Tira invites participants into an accepting, warm creative space to discover and witness their own creativity and lived experience.

Connection, autonomy, community, curiosity, wonder and fun are key aspects of Tira's practice. A deep seeded passion of selfhood and growth are woven in creative engagements either individual or group sessions.
