Saturday 14 June: Make your own plant pot with Lyndell Petersen

Artist Lyndell Petersen leads a hands-on experience where you create a unique clay plant pot using a variety of techniques like coils, stamps and sprig moulds.

This workshop is designed for all ages and skill levels — no prior experience is necessary. After the workshop, participants' creations will be fired by Lyndell, and can be picked up from the gallery afterwards.

About the artist: Lyndell Petersen is a passionate pottery and ceramic artist with a deep commitment to sharing her knowledge.

Her work explores both wheel-thrown functional and large scale sculptural pieces, which each go through an extensive process. Lyndell does most of her creating in her home studio on the outskirts of North Brisbane.

She also works from her local pottery club where she can spend hours playing with clay alongside her pottery club family.

Saturday 26 July: You inside outside with Dr Deborah Eddy

Explore identity by making a small material soft sculpture of yourself under the guidance of artist Deborah Eddy.

You will make a body and dress your sculpture, using textiles and easy stitching techniques. This is a safe space to explore identity while having fun.  You can clothe your sculpture as you either think people see you, or how you would like to be seen.

About the artist: Dr Deborah Eddy is a feminist activist artist and independent researcher who works in the field of sculpture and performance.

She achieved a Bachelor of Arts first class Honours in 2017 and in April 2022 was awarded a Doctor of Visual Arts. She attended the Feminist Art Collective Residency in Toronto in 2018 and an artist residency at House Conspiracy in 2020. She presented at the Lilith Symposium in 2019, Activism @ the Margins Conference in 2020 and in 2022 and 2023 the Australian Humour Studies Network Conferences. In 2022 Eddy presented at the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand.

She is a self-employed artist who offers adult art classes and workshops and her works are in private and regional gallery collections.

Saturday 16 August: Scribble Grid 101 with Tori-Jay Mordey

With the guidance of established illustrator and mural artist Tori-Jay Mordey, learn about the Scribble Grid.

This is a technique used by street artists to accurately and efficiently transfer and scale their artwork onto a large-scale surface without the need for precise measurements.

Tori-Jay has used the Scribble Grid technique throughout her career when painting both large-scale murals and smaller sized canvases. In this workshop you will transfer a design onto a canvas with ease, and discover the world of mural art.

iPads with Procreate are provided for this workshop; if you have your own device and app, bring that along.

About the artist: Tori-Jay Mordey is an established First Nations Australian illustrator and artist based in Meanjin/Brisbane. She openly shares both her Torres Strait Islander and English heritage, which is often reflected in her contemporary indigenous art practice.

With more than nine years of professional experience within the art industry, she prides herself in her skills as a mural artist, digital artist, and painter. Tori-Jay has a recognisable digital art style which often depicts exaggerated forms of human connection in relation to love, loss, and identity. She thoroughly enjoys creating pieces that emotionally speak to the viewer, while also over-saturating the space with colour and light.

Tori-Jay hopes her art and actions can make a difference when it comes to representing herself, her community, and contemporary Torres Straits Islander artists as a whole.
