Hobby Horse Riders - Queensland Hobby Horse Competition
Next date: Friday, 03 October 2025 | 08:00 AM
to 05:00 PM
Hobby horsing, an exciting new sport for young people, has spread to Australia! Inspired by a group of Finnish youth, this national sport attracts thousands of players and spectators globally. This year, Hobby Horse Riders is bringing its Queensland Competition to the Morayfield Sport and Events Centre!
They invite riders from across the state to compete in a range of equestrian-based competitions. From dressage to music, to jumping and high jump, get ready to show off your amazing riding skills. Each competition has different classes. So, riders of all skill levels can join in the fun, whether you're new to the sport or an expert rider.
Hobby-horsing is a reimagining of equestrian competitions. Riders use sticks with a fabric horse head to mimic popular equine challenges. It builds confidence and fitness in young girls and boys in a fun, friendly, and inclusive way.
Spectators are welcome to join in the fun with Gymkhana multi-event challenges. Gymkhana is a fun way to encourage physical activity, teamwork, and friendly competition.
This is a family fun day you won't want to miss. Join us on the last Friday of the October school holidays to cheer on your favourite rider or to ride yourself!
About the organiser
Hobby Horse Riders Australia was founded in 2016 by Matty Sormani. Matty is from Horses and Humans, an organisation that provides equine-assisted learning. Her lifelong passion for horses and the social and physical benefits they bring to people sparked it.
Hobby horsing offers a range of fun activities that appeal to most people's interests. From physical to creative and practical, its possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
