Public Interest Review - Proposed Local Law Waste Management

Proposed Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No. 7 (Waste Management) 2017 and Moreton Bay Regional Council Community and Environmental Management (Amendment) Subordinate Local Law (1) 2017

Chapter 5A of the Environmental Protection Regulation 2008 and section 7 of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulation 2011 currently deal with waste management. These will expire on 1 July 2018.

Accordingly, Moreton Bay Regional Council is now undergoing community consultation from 29 January to 20 February on a proposed Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.7 (Waste Management) 2017 and Moreton Bay Regional Council Community and Environmental Management (Amendment) Subordinate Local Law (1) 2017.

The proposed Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.7 (Waste Management) 2017 will substantially replicate the expiring State Government waste management provisions, and seeks to protect the region's public health, safety, and amenity by:

  • regulating the storage, servicing and removal of waste
  • regulating the disposal of waste at waste facilities
  • ensuring that an act or omission does not result in human injury, property damage, or environmental harm or nuisance.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Community and Environmental Management (Amendment) Subordinate Local Law (1) 2017 seeks to remove matters that will be addressed in the proposed Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Law No.7 (Waste Management) 2017.

Council has prepared the following documents for community consultation:
