March : School Life (2017)

Redcliffe Library, Thursday 22 March, 1.30pm - 2.30pm

The Award-winning documentary "School Life" follows a year in the lives of two inspirational teachers in the only primary-age boarding school in Ireland. For John, rock music is just another subject alongside Maths, Scripture and Latin, taught in a collaborative and often hilarious fashion. For Amanda the key to connecting with children is ‘the book’ and she uses all means to snare the young minds. For nearly half a century these two have shaped thousands of minds but now the unthinkable looms: what would retirement mean? What will keep them young if they leave?

From Ireland. Rated M. 01:39 hrs

April: This Ain't No Mouse Music (2013)

Redcliffe Library, Thursday 26 April, 1.30pm - 2.30pm

Chris Strachwitz is a detective of deep American music that’s the antithesis of corporate “mouse music” dominating pop culture. Since 1960, his legendary Arhoolie Records has bought Cajun, Tex-Mex and blues music out of the country and into the living rooms of Middle America.

Born a German count, Strachwitz fled his homeland at sixteen, after WWII, to the USA where he discovered, and shared, a musical landscape that most Americans missed.

American music has never been the same.

From the United States. Rated M. 01:31 hrs.

Other films (titles to be confirmed) will be shown at Redcliffe Library on the fourth Thursday of each month.
