Join us for an inclusive, safe, and exciting event celebrating International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). We invite all, regardless of identity, to join us as we share, educate, and celebrate the diverse spectrum of human experiences. Enjoy a thought-provoking discussion about kooky comedy, words that move us, and creating welcoming spaces with our panel of local community builders.

Deborah Fisher headshot

Deborah Fisher (MC)

Deborah is a lecturer in Fashion Studies with a focus on developing a design mindset. Her research interests encompass fashion and identity, women’s relationships with clothing through material culture, personal branding and design thinking.

Rae White

Rae White is a queer non-binary transgender writer, and the author of poetry collections Milk Teeth (UQP 2018) and Exactly As I Am (UQP 2022). They were awarded the Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize in 2017 and have been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, Queensland Literary Awards, and Victorian Premier's Literary Awards. Rae won the 2022 Woollahra Digital Literary Award for Digital Innovation for their Bitsy poem-game stand up, which was also featured in Pride at Play and given an Honourable Mention in the Freeplay Awards. Rae is the Creative Director and Founder of community poetry initiative Uplift, and the Founding Editor of #EnbyLife, a journal for non-binary and gender diverse creatives.

Ben Blue

Combining kooky comedy with killer heels (and the occasional egg costume) Ben Blue has successfully built a social media career that has spanned almost ten years. With a passion for performance, Ben got an early start in radio hosting and dance, progressing to YouTube content creationwhere he built an audience of over 350k followers. With the rise of short-form content, Ben saw an opportunity to create fast paced, highly sharable videos which saw him quickly rise to over 4M followers on TikTok and 150K followers on Instagram. Within the creator community, Ben is well-known for his hard work and determination to perfecting his craft. His positive outlook on life and proactive attitude towards work have lead to multiple partnerships with major global brands such as TikTok, Sony Music, V Energy, EA Games, Telstra, Warner Bros Entertainment and more.

Kat Nurthen

Kat opened small independent bookstore Shelf Lovers in July 2023. Shelf Lovers specialises in LGBTQIA+ and romance books, gifts and geekery. It is more than just a shop though – Kat and her family offer a safe and inclusive space for book lovers and members of the LGBTQIA+ community to connect and engage with each other and their love of books. Kat’s first career was as a librarian before she transitioned to policy and strategy work in 2016. She is a passionate reader, researcher, advocate and self-professed book geek. As the proud mum of a trans teen, she is committed to making the world a more welcoming place for everybody, even if it is one book or lapel pin at a time.
