The Ombudsman investigates complaints about the actions and decisions of Queensland's state and local government agencies or their staff that may be made for the following reasons:
- Improper purpose
- Irrelevant grounds
- Illegal or contrary to law
- Improperly discriminatory
- Based on a mistake of law or fact
- Made without giving reasons
It is an independent complaints investigation agency, whose role is to make sure that public agencies act fairly and make the right decisions for Queenslanders.
