Exhibition: The Finishing Touch
Examples of embroidered and crocheted pieces could be found in most Australian homes from the late 1800s. Along with their practical function, doilies, milk jug covers and table linen also served a decorative purpose and were a way of making even the smallest cottage a more comfortable place to live in. Embroidery and crochet work provided a creative outlet for some, for others it was a leisure activity and it was often used to commemorate significant events. This exhibition will showcase many fine examples from our Museum collection.
