Nominations for the 2019 Queensland Greats Awards are now open and Moreton Bay Regional Mayor Allan Sutherland wants to see a local take out the top honour.
“We are the home of legends like Artie Beetson, Petero Civoniceva, Jessicah Schipper and of course music legends the Bee Gees,” he said.
“I think it’s only logical that the next Queensland Great should come from the Moreton Bay Region because we breed extraordinary people, so I encourage locals to get involved and get nominating.
“Nominations are open across three different categories - individual, instruction and posthumous - and submissions can be easily made online.
“This significant awards program recognises exceptional individuals and institutions for their remarkable contribution to the history and future of our great state.
“A broad array of outstanding Queenslanders have been celebrated in the past, from philanthropist Clive Berghofer AM, to the late Steve Irwin, and equality activist Gail Ker OAM.
“The awards have also acknowledged the enormous contribution of institutions like the renowned Queensland Symphony Orchestra and St Vincent de Paul Society.”
A total of 90 individuals, 14 institutions and four posthumous recipients have now been honoured as Queensland Greats.
