Karen Johns - 2018 Moreton Bay Citizen of the Year

I’m Karen Johns, owner of DARE Formal Wear - a not-for-profit helping women and children experiencing domestic violence.

Last year, I had the honour being nominated for Citizen of the Year… And won!

It came as a huge shock to me, but it was such a great feeling and a great way to recognise the awesome work of everyone here at DARE.

If you know someone in the community who is a hero to you - put their name in for a Moreton Bay Australia Day Award

It doesn’t matter if they’re a star athlete, artist, environmentalist or community volunteer

Nominations close October 31, so get in quick! The clock is ticking.

2017 Moreton Bay Young Citizen of the Year Lakeisha ‘Lucky’ Paterson

I’m Lucky Patterson and last year, I had the honour being nominated and was awarded Moreton Bay Region's Young Citizen of the Year.

I’m so proud of my achievements in and out of the pool but being recognised by my local community with an Australia Day Award is one of my proudest achievements.

If you know an inspiring individual who is achieving amazing things - please nominate them for an Australia Day Award.

It doesn’t matter if they’re a sporting champion, local artist or outstanding volunteer, we’d love to hear from you.

There’s no better way to say thanks to a local hero.
