Council has allocated funds to improve the intersection of Oakey Flat Road and Walkers Road, Morayfield to reduce congestion at peak times, allow for future growth in the local area, while improving intersection safety. The project will include:

  • Road widening with additional traffic lanes including dedicated turn lanes.
  • Reconstruction of the road pavement, asphalt surfacing and line marking.
  • Improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
  • Landscaping of the reserve which was recently named Jenny Fourez Park.
  • Relocation of underground and above ground utility services.

Project timeline

  • Pre-construction works including property acquisitions, fence relocations and public utility relocations are well under way.
  • Telstra and Unity Water relocations have been completed. Energex pole relocations are expected to be completed by the end of August 2018.
  • The road construction works package is expected to be tendered later this year with construction expected to commence late January/early February 2019 (weather and program dependent).
  • Duration of works will be dependent on weather and the successful contractor's construction program.

During the construction period, it may be necessary to provide detours, partial lane closures and some reduction in lane widths to allow the intersection construction to be undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.

Some night construction activities may also be undertaken to minimise impacts on daytime traffic.
