Council has a variety of services and initiatives that aim to support and work with Moreton Bay Region’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
National Reconciliation Week 2017
National Reconciliation Week is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. These dates commemorate two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey; the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court of Australia’s landmark Mabo decision, respectively.
Community Networks in the Moreton Bay Region
Council supports a number of key community networking opportunities including the Yarning Circle and Murri Network meetings.
The Yarning Circle is a place for community members to introduce, share and support matters concerning the improvement and wellbeing of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Such matters are then shared the following month with the Murri Network comprising of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous government, service providers and community representatives for action.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations
NAIDOC (National Aboriginal Islander Day of Celebration)
celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people and is an opportunity to recognise
the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our
country.
NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July.
Council acknowledges the importance of NAIDOC Week and supports a
variety of events held throughout the Moreton Bay Region.

Discover our Welcoming Places in Bribie Island, Caboolture,

These dedicated library spaces welcome people to find and share
information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

as the first point of contact for cultural heritage matters and

Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Traditional
Owners and Elders
Cultural protocols, such as Welcome to Country and
Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners, pay respect to Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander cultures and Traditional Owners. Information about these cultural protocols is may be found on the
Queensland Government website.
