The National Broadband Network (NBN) is Australia's first national wholesale-only, open access communications network that is being built to bring high speed broadband and telephone services within the reach of all Australian premises. The NBN will utilise three technologies; fibre, fixed wireless and satellite, expected to make possible improved ways for you to connect with one another. Within the next decade, the plan is for every home, school and workplace in the country to have access to the NBN.
The Moreton Bay Region has been chosen to be amongst the first areas for the rollout starting from October 2012 to June 2015. The NBN will give all Australian homes and businesses access to fast, reliable and affordable broadband services. Unlike most existing networks, the NBN’s capacity and high download and upload speeds will allow us to access a variety of services at one time with guaranteed quality.
The NBN will create new opportunities for education. It has the potential to change the way we learn and teach and will give you greater access to educational opportunities, no matter where you live. One of the greatest benefits the NBN will offer you is improved access to health services––some consultations and health monitoring will be possible from the comfort of your own home
With the NBN, you’ll be able to catch up with friends and family easily with high quality video calls from your lounge room. The NBN will also give you access to a better range of entertainment in your home. Australian businesses all around the country, big or small, have the opportunity to reduce costs, increase efficiency and find new markets. The NBN will open up opportunities for businesses to conduct more online sales, transfer data more easily, hold virtual meetings, or liaise with suppliers across Australia online––potentially saving time and costs associated with travelling and transferring information.
